![]() This is a legacy software and it is no longer supported by University of Helsinki. Starting to use ATLAS.ti Installing the software It specially excels in open coding, i.e., attaching interpretations and concepts to the material during the analysis stage. We will discuss how you can continue to use ATLAS.ti for free or on a budget, and what software solutions can best assist you overcome your research is one of many software available to assist with qualitative analysis. How to integrate ATLAS.ti in your research future In the last hands-on session you will learn how ATLAS.ti interacts with SPSS, social media like Twitter, and surveys, including automated pre-coding. Using an online tutorial on geo-documents, you will solve an exercise that will make you confident to work independently with ATLAS.ti in the future. We will discuss challenges and how to reflexively record the analysis process.Īpplying ATLAS.ti in geography research You will read an academic article and a blog article about different applications of ATLAS.ti in the field of geography. Exercises will help you practice how to retrieve results and visualise these in word clouds and networks. Besides auto-coding you will learn how to create a functioning coding system. Learn to get from coding to results Today we will dive into some advanced coding strategies. Through individual and group exercises you will learn data segmentation and coding strategies using multiple data sources. You will start using ATLAS.ti hands-on by setting up your own project. How to start segmenting and coding data We will get to know each other and talk about shared project aspects and research challenges. You will read a chapter to introduce you to computer assisted qualitative data analysis (CAQDAS), and install and download the software. What is ATLAS.ti? After a prerecorded introductory video, you will construct a summary of your research project, and email it to have individualised advice integrated in the rest of the week. Workshop Schedule (all times are in Central European Time): If you are selected, the expectation is that you will participate in all sessions of the Workshop. If you are selected, we will notify you ahead of the Workshop and provide you all the Workshop details and session links. Selection will be based on your AAG membership status, your research needs, and time of registration. We will select up to 16 graduate students to participate in this Workshop. Before or after data collection (as we will work with example data) but not yet having started analysis by other means. No need for prior knowledge regarding CAQDAS or ATLAS.ti. Wanting to use ATLAS.ti for windows for a concrete research project including qualitative data, specifically students with divergent data sources. It has been her passion to support graduate students worldwide to become independent researchers, and to innovate and decolonise research practices. As a full time academic researcher with roots in both the natural and the social sciences, she has worked in the departments of anthropology, geography, political science, and communication and media studies, providing her with a broad experience in undertaking and supervising research projects in different disciplines. Vanessa Wijngaarden is a certified ATLAS.ti professional trainer (senior level) and a registered consultant at ATLAS.ti, with over a decade of experience with teaching the program on three continents. Vanessa WijngaardenUniversity of Johannesburg, ATLAS.tiĭr. About the Workshop instructor(s) / host(s): The workshop covers both theory and practical work, and aims to help students to continue to work with ATLAS.ti independently. They will be supported to develop strategies to conduct the analysis of their concrete research projects, including how to document and account for the changing circumstances of their research. Students learn how to conduct a structured, integrated and reflexive analysis of the sometimes unexpected and cacophonic data they may have end up with due to the pandemic. This workshop is to learn how to use the computer assisted qualitative data analysis (CAQDAS) software ATLAS.ti for free or on a budget.
